Albert Williams is charged with unarmed robbery, assault and battery, and vandalizing property from the alleged Oct. 15 attack on Boylston Street, the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office said. The prosecutor asked for a $1,000 bail and a revocation of his bail from another assault and battery case, but the judge released Williams on personal recognizance as long as Williams completes a treatment program and stays away from the victim, authorities said.

A 21-year-old woman told police she was walking along Boylston Street near Dartmouth Street when a man she later identified as Williams approached her and shoved her to the ground, the prosecutor said. Williams wrenched her phone from her hands, smashed it onto the ground, and broke it, authorities said.

Williams will return to court on Feb. 7 for a probable cause hearing.

The prosecutor said Williams has a long history of criminal behavior dating back to 1992.

“This is the type of offense that affects a victim for a lengthy period of time and impacts both the reality and perception of safety in our neighborhoods," District Attorney Kevin Hayden said. "It’s fortunate that the victim in this case did not sustain serious injury."
